The "Chantons la Paix dans toutes les langues" (Singing for Peace in all Languages) project is an academic and artistic initiative led by the Académie de Lyon, in France. Designed for students ranging from primary school to high school on the occasion of the European Day of Languages in 2025 and in 2026, this project transforms the educational experience into a vibrant laboratory for peace, where the human voice serves as a tool for civic diplomacy.
The project's originality lies in its creative, plurilingual approach. Students are encouraged to engage with the theme of peace through two primary activities: interpreting existing works from the global repertoire of peace songs and composing original songs that incorporate lyrics in multiple languages. This leads to an interdisciplinary collaboration, bridging musical education, foreign language learning, and moral and civic education.
The project objectives :
The primary challenge of this project is harmony. As such, modern languages play an active role in promoting social cohesion by fostering an understanding of cultures, customs and traditions, and enabling the discovery of the history and geography of other countries.
Openness to the world : Singing peace in all languages invites us to shift our focus, to open ourselves up to other sounds, other music, other ways of perceiving and expressing peace. It is a form of commitment through the body and the voice.
Creativity : An important place is given to creativity, including musical creativity, for all pupils who wish to get involved in the dynamic, as long as they are part of a shared aspiration for mutual respect and peace.
