Music as a Channel for Refugee Healing: The “Bridges” Project in Germany

A New Path to Integration Through Music

In March 2025, SRH University in Heidelberg launched Bridges, an inspiring initiative funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. With nearly €670,000 over three years, the project fuses music therapy and creative education to empower refugee youth. As Prof. Dr. Alexander F. Wormit explains, the aim is “supporting the mental health as well as the social and emotional skills of young refugees”

Key Activities: Workshops + Intercultural Concerts

Highlights include biannual concerts featuring both refugee participants and full-time musicians, offering a stage to exchange cultures and identities. These intercultural gatherings give young people a strong sense of belonging and community.

Why It Matters

Research consistently shows music fosters emotional resilience, reduces isolation, and strengthens social bonds. Initiatives like Bridges create safe spaces where young people can process trauma and connect through creativity—a theme central to our MY PEACE project.

Connecting to MY PEACE

Just like Bridges, MY PEACE harnesses music for peacebuilding. Our upcoming music session videos will offer similar creative platforms—this time featuring youth voices across Europe. Stay tuned!
